Start the Madness
If spring to you doesn’t mean blooming flowers or long bike rides but rather the squeak of basketball shoes on the court, get your March Madness off to an early start with the Atlantic 10 men’s basketball championships. The competition returns to Boardwalk Hall for a weekend of games that will determine who has a shot at the NCAA crown. March 11-13, at 2301 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, (800) 736-1420, BoardwalkHall.com for ticket prices and game times

Get Jiggy
Sure, you may celebrate Chinese New Year or Passover—but everyone’s got enough Irish in them to take part in St. Patrick’s Day. Get your green on and head down to the Atlantic City Boardwalk for a St. Patrick’s Day parade full of music, dancing and Irish spirit. The festivities begin at States Avenue and the Boardwalk, and conclude at Albany Avenue. March 12, 1 p.m., (609) 343-6326, AtlanticCityNJ.com, free

The Ocean County Parks Department will offer a lesson on avian wildlife, followed by a journey down the jetty for observation of local birdlife.
